SCOKA and ILRI Meeting
The Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) recently convened to forge a collaborative partnership aimed at bolstering Kenya's livestock sector. The meeting explored key areas for collaboration, including joint research projects on animal health and sustainable farming, capacity building for local scientists and farmers, and frameworks for data sharing and technology transfer.
A crucial focus of the discussions was collaborative policy advocacy to influence government policies that support sustainable livestock development. To ensure the success of these initiatives, ILRI offered to assist SCOKA with identifying and applying for grants. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and establish a joint task force to finalize details and identify specific projects. This strategic partnership is poised to significantly impact livestock systems and enhance food security goals across Kenya.
