From 18–22 August 2025, the grounds of Egerton University, Njoro were alive with discovery during the Kenya National Research Festival (KNRF).
The Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) took part in multiple ways, showing how research can be shared clearly and reach every community.
SCOKA’s Presence at a Glance
Exhibition Booth
Our booth became a meeting point for conversations about science communication and public engagement.
We were honoured to host the Principal Secretary, State Department of Science, Research, Innovation and Technology, who visited to learn about our work.
Side Event: Science Communication & Research Dissemination
This well-attended session explored how research results can move from lab to everyday life. Participants discussed practical ways to explain science in plain language and in local dialects. The National Research Fund (NRF) CEO, Prof. Dickson Andala, who is also a SCOKA board member, officiated the event, reinforcing our commitment to making knowledge accessible and useful.
Poster Presentation
Grace Kago (author) and Ms. Everlyn Kimanthi (Chairperson SCOKA & co-author) presented a poster on using local languages to share scientific ideas, a reminder that real impact begins with understanding.
Youth Engagement Panel
Four SCOKA members joined a panel on the role of young scientists in Kenya’s research and innovation journey. The discussion highlighted how young professionals drive action today.
Collective Effort
An impressive 47 SCOKA members attended the festival, each serving as an ambassador for our mission to connect science with the public. Their energy and dedication showed that science truly belongs to everyone.
We extend heartfelt thanks to the National Research Fund (NRF) and the entire organizing team for providing this platform, and to every SCOKA member who contributed time and ideas.
KNRF 2025 proved that research has the greatest impact when it is shared widely and explained clearly.
SCOKA remains committed to making science understandable and useful for all Kenyans.
