August 3, 2025, 8:53 pm | Africa Bioethics Community

On July 19th, 2024, the Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) proudly participated in the official launch of the ORCID Bioethics Community of Practice in Sub-Saharan Africa. This pivotal event gathered experts and stakeholders to collaboratively enhance bioethical practices across the region.

The core mission of this new community is to serve as a hub for sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices in bioethics. It aims to address the unique ethical challenges prevalent in Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly within research and healthcare. By uniting professionals in a dedicated network, the initiative will promote high ethical standards and ultimately improve the quality of both research and healthcare delivery.

The active participation of Kenyan scientists at this launch highlights the vital role of local expertise. Our members engaged in collaborative discussions on navigating complex ethical dilemmas, including issues of informed consent, data privacy, and the equitable distribution of resources in research.

This launch represents a significant milestone for the future of bioethics in Sub-Saharan Africa. SCOKA and other participating organizations are committed to ongoing engagement and the development of robust training programs. This collective effort promises to establish a strong framework for ethical practices, ensuring that scientific and healthcare advancements truly benefit the communities they serve.
