SCOKA Participation at OSH Conference 2024
The Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA), represented by Everlyn Kimanthi, participated in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Conference 2024 in Nakuru. During the conference, Kimanthi presented an abstract focused on enhancing the safety of scientists who handle biohazards in laboratory settings.
The presentation highlighted several critical areas for improving safety measures, including the importance of stringent safety protocols, comprehensive training for laboratory personnel, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Kimanthi also emphasized the necessity of adhering to national and international safety regulations and establishing a robust incident reporting system to track and manage safety breaches. The presentation underscored the urgent need for enhanced safety measures to protect scientists working with biohazards through a combination of proper training, equipment, regulatory compliance, and effective incident management.
