SCOKA – AFMAS

The AFMAS Food Expo, held from June 12 to June 14, 2024, at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, served as a significant platform for stakeholders in the food, consumer goods, hospitality, and retail sectors. This year’s event attracted over 6,000 delegates from more than 60 countries, showcasing the latest innovations and technologies in the food industry. Among the various participants, the Scientists of Kenya Association (SCOKA) played a notable role, although they did not exhibit their work directly.

SCOKA’s Role and Engagement

As a participant, SCOKA engaged in the expo primarily through attendance and networking. Their presence underscored the importance of scientific research and innovation in addressing the challenges faced by the food sector in Kenya and the broader Eastern African region. While SCOKA did not have a dedicated exhibition space, their representatives actively participated in discussions and sessions that focused on sustainability, food security, and technological advancements in food production.
The expo featured a comprehensive program that included a bustling Expo Hall, high-level conferences, and numerous networking opportunities. SCOKA representatives took advantage of these sessions to connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders. This engagement allowed them to share insights on the role of science in enhancing food safety, improving agricultural practices, and promoting sustainable food systems.

Networking and Knowledge Sharing

Networking was a crucial aspect of SCOKA’s participation. The expo provided a unique opportunity for SCOKA members to interact with food processors, distributors, and technology providers. These interactions facilitated the exchange of ideas and best practices, which are essential for fostering innovation in the food sector. SCOKA representatives were able to discuss ongoing research projects and explore potential collaborations with other organizations and institutions present at the expo. Additionally, the high-level conference sessions offered SCOKA members valuable insights into market trends, investment opportunities, and strategies for accessing trade and market opportunities. The discussions centered around key themes such as food manufacturing, retail innovations, and sustainability practices, aligning closely with SCOKA’s mission to promote scientific research in the agricultural and food sectors.

Conclusion

In summary, the participation of the Scientists of Kenya Association at the AFMAS Food Expo 2024 was marked by active engagement in networking and knowledge sharing, despite not being an exhibitor. Their involvement highlighted the critical role of scientific research in the food industry and provided a platform for collaboration with various stakeholders. As the food sector continues to evolve, SCOKA’s participation in such events is vital for promoting innovation and addressing the challenges of food security and sustainability in Kenya and beyond.
